Anyone have a good "rescue horse" story?

I help a rescue organization in a town about 3 hours from me. I could tell you stories that would make you sick as to what people do to horses, and don't do. It's not cheap, or easy on the pocketbook or the heart to do this kind of work. It's hard on the heart to see these horses initially, and it's harder to let them go after you've spent so much time with them, and of course you always worry about what the new owners will do. I don't have a particular story b/c each horse has been special in it's own way. But I do want to tell you that you did a good thing by not walking away from that horse. So many people would have, and then no telling what would have happened to it.
