I'm going to Germany for a year in July. I have an iPhone from AT&T. What should I do for coverage?

I applied for a vocational scholarship there so I'll be working, but I would rather stay on my AT&T plan here in the states since I just got the phone, and would rather not have to pay the fees for canceling the plan. Is there any way to stay on AT&T or have them move my account to a partner company there?
