My friend gets wifi signal with his cheaper dell laptop with XP at my work but i dont with my M1330 with Vista?

My friend gets a unsecured signal which he can connect to but i don't..i am wondering why and is there anyway I can boost the power of my wifi card somehow? Thanks a lot!
