Was anyone in college ever kind enough to tell you that all first year teachers are bad and ineffective?
I've been teaching for 11 years, and many teachers, principals, and parents would say I'm one of the best teachers in the building. But, my first year I was horrible. None of the discipline techniques I tried would work, and I couldn't figure out how to get a whole clroom to do what needed to be done. Since then, I've observed quite a few first year teachers, and in truth, none of them are effective... I think a lot of young teachers end up leaving the profession, despite the fact that they might become a good teacher, with effort. It's not a natural thing to lead a clroom with 20 or 30 individual egos.
